Hoax e-mail causes panic

A new email had been making the rounds on many servers across Durban stating that a severe thunderstorm is brewing.

However the Durban Met Office has confirmed that the mail is a hoax. Forecaster Colin Anderson stated, " The email warns residents to brace themselves for what it calls ' the worst storm ever'. While we will have rain for a few weeks, we are not expecting any major storms.

"Thunderstorms and summer go together. Severe thunderstorms are not forecast long in advance, they're forecast on what we call 'now time'- When we see one developing to severe (levels) we issue a warning for it . But there's no warning currently issued by Southern African Weather Service for severe storms.
